"I’m really pleased with the writing. Ted said it was a ‘breezy read.’ I told him that was mainly your doing—and it was. It was great working with you because you were good at keeping my meaning (few people can do that), good at spotting gaps and mistakes, and flexible when I needed you to be.”
Copyediting The Feel and the Details
I started copyediting at PC World magazine in the mid-1980s and went on to become senior copy editor at Macworld for a few years. I've done freelance copyediting on and off since then.
Magazines I've worked on include Mothering, Mountain Living, Women's Sports and Fitness, and Delicious Living. I've also copyedited books for several publishers, including Peachpit Press, Westview Press, and ABC-CLIO. I’ve worked for individuals as well, on projects ranging from short pieces for a veterinary journal to a book on the economics of global warming.
I have a gut feel for language that helps me turn awkward text into clear, smooth writing, even while I maintain the author’s voice—or even help find it. At the same time, I nail the grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I’m a fit for you if you’re seeking more than a cursory look at your work.
I'm not currently copyediting book-length works. I'll take on short, interesting assignments, either one-off or ongoing. I can proofread too. You can e-mail me or call me at 303.449.8248.
